Hey, Y’all! Welcome to the new and improved Olive Branch website! I am so excited to share this new site and blog post with you.
Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons for so many reasons. I love the food, fashion, celebrations of family and all the fun festivals there are to attend. Every year about mid-August I start daydreaming of my fall decor sitting patiently in my attic to be brought out. I can’t wait to dust it off and display it in new and exciting ways. This year I have gotten a jump start on my fall decor by prepping my outdoor space and collecting items for it. All week I have been sweeping out too many spider webs I let collect over the summer, painting outdoor furniture and buying (don’t tell my fiancé) some fall porch staples. I wanted to share some of the items I found that might work great for you as you plan your fall porch decor.
My Fall Porch Picks:
I believe the key to seasonal decor is finding a neutral color scheme and adding pops of color. With fall decor there are two main routes you can go, the traditional orange or the now popular sage green. For my interior decor, which I will be sharing soon, I am sticking with the sage green and white decor. While on the outside I have decided to go with the traditional pops of orange. One thing I like to do is add in a few different patterns! This year I am all about the buffalo plaid!
I found both of these items on Amazon for a great price! Black and white will always have a special place in my heart for its simple and clean look. It is always classic and matches just about anything. The best thing about this buffalo plaid print is it can so easily be transitioned into your Christmas decor. I always try to buy decor pieces that can be used as much as possible in different ways.
If you have been following along with my outdoor decor projects you have seen how I LOVE to layer outdoor rugs. I will be layering my buffalo plaid rug with a fun fall jute welcome mat. Some of my favorite fall rugs are simple, adding just a touch of the season without being too much.
If you need layered rugs, then you definitely need layered pillows. On my porch, I have a bench and rocking chairs that I will be decorating with fall pillows. I will use the buffalo plaid pillows as the backdrop and layer in some pops of orange as I go. If you are like me and you believe “the more throw pillows the better”, I suggest a layering of 2-3 pillows depending on the depth of the surface they will sit on. This is where you really get to add in the colors that you have chosen for your fall decor. If you are using the traditional orange or going the more neural route, I have linked pillows that will go great for both.
As I always say, “less is more” when it comes to decor. I think a few simple fall pillows layered with your more neutral buffalo plaid will keep your fall porch classy and welcoming without being overwhelming.
Every front porch needs a great front door wreath! This is where I think it is incredibly simple to re-use items. I use the same boxwood wreath and switch up ribbons for every season, all year long. If you have a favorite, simple wreath you use, keep it up! Add an orange, buffalo plaid or jute material ribbon to change its look. There are several places such as Hobby Lobby or Michaels that offer pre-made bows if you aren’t able to make your own.
This is my exact boxwood wreath from Hobby Lobby and it is currently 50% off!
The final touches for your fall porch are just small accents such as mums or pumpkins. I suggest a few here and there around your porch furniture or going up your steps if you have them. If you have porch columns, they can be dressed up with these accents layered at the bottom. I do not have a green thumb when it comes to potted, porch plants. For some reason, mine always die an early death. Therefore I will be staying away from living plants and adding more pumpkins to my own decor.
My porch is currently in transition mode, with all summer decor cleared out waiting for fall. Be on the lookout for my fall porch reveal on September 1st! I have officially decided that is an acceptable time for fall to arrive! Remember, fall is all about welcoming people into your home, celebrating what you are thankful for and drinking warm beverages. What better way to start than with a perfectly styled front porch?
